Finally got my gearbox back in today with the Quaife diff. installed along with a heavier duty standard Volvo clutch.

The new clutch, despite its 50% increase in clamping pressure gives a lighter pedal that I remember with the standard ST clutch. I have also replaced the control cylinder/bearing assembly as that was sensible whilst everything was out on the bench. The original disc, completely shagged, would, when new have made a standard disc out of some old 1000cc Escort look beefy.......Ford must have paired its spec to the bone. The Volvo item is pretty substantial, and with springs in it which is becoming unusual when matched with a twin mass flywheel.

I will be out for a good hooley arround a few bends and big roundabouts of a late night in the next couple of days, so may have something sensible to say on the effect of the Quaife. Having been used to the somewhat more agricultural plate type lsd.s that I have supplied for Volvos over the years I may be pleasantly surprised by the more civilised action of the Quaife, but it is to be experienced as to whether the standard ST suspension will lift a wheel when cornering hard and the Quaife will loose its drive.

I will be fitting a stiffer rear anti roll bar shortly to see how that adds to keeping both front wheels planted...I dont think some of us can live in suburbia and manage a lower than standard front end with road humps and stuff.Finally, just a quick plug....I have the uprated Volvo clutch, disc and cover, in stock at £275 including VAT, the matching bearing/release is £97.50. I will have a price for the rear roll bar shortly. Quaife diffs also in stock.
