** IMPORTANT ** MERCON® LV Automatic Transmission Fluid for 2008 MY Vehicles and Beyond
Recently there have been numerous incidents of misapplication of automatic transmission fluid, particularly with respect to MERCON® LV and MERCON® V. Use of the wrong fluid can affect transmission function and durability. Check the owner guide and/or the Workshop manual for the correct fluid when servicing a vehicle.
Last year Ford Motor Company introduced a new automatic transmission fluid, MERCON® LV, for the 2008 MY Focus with the 4F27E transmission. For 2009 MY the use of this fluid was expanded to vehicles which use the 4R75W, 5R110W, 6R80, 6F35 and eCVT automatic transmissions. Vehicles impacted are F-Series, Town Car, Grand Marquis, E-series, Super Duty trucks (including chassis cab, motorhome and LCF) and Escape/Mariner (including Hybrid).
MERCON® LV provides improved shift feel, friction properties and fuel economy. MERCON® LV is being phased in over a 3-year period in place of MERCON® V and MERCON® SP. At this time MERCON® V, MERCON® SP and MERCON® LV are not interchangeable. Older applications requiring MERCON® V and MERCON® SP must continue to use these fluids.
2008 MY (4F27E) and 2009MY (4R75W, 5R110W, 6R80, 6F35 and eCVT) transmissions requiring MERCON® LV, MUST use MERCON® LV. There are hardware and calibration differences in these transmissions, and the use of the wrong fluid can affect transmission function and durability. Since there will now be vehicles and transmissions of the same type from subsequent model years that will require different fluids, it is important to service with the correct fluid. Always consult the owner guide and/or workshop manual and examine the dipstick marking (if applicable) before servicing the vehicle. DO NOT ASSUME THAT A NEW VEHICLE GETS SERVICED WITH THE SAME FLUID AS AN EARLIER MODEL.
MERCON® LV has been available since August 2007 and can be ordered through DOES2. Motorcraft MERCON® LV Part Number is XT-10-QL.
